Silencing Audio

WireTap Studio's lossless and non-destructive editor can silence unwanted portions of a recording with no loss of quality or audio to the original recording.

Easily edited fades are automatically added to edited portions of audio to smooth transitions. For more on fades, see Using Fades in the Editor

To Silence a portion of audio:

  1. Select a recording in the library and click on the Edit button, or simply double click the file.
    NOTE: To edit a file not recorded by WireTap Studio go to the File menu and select Open...
  2. Click and drag to select the portion of the audio to be silenced.

  4. Go to the Editor menu and select Silence Audio, click on the Silence button...

    ...or press the command and delete keys on your keyboard. The highlighted portion of audio will be silenced and fades added to the remaining audio.

    Drag the fade markers back and forth to increase or decrease the length of the fade.

  5. Use the crop markers below to adjust how much audio is silenced.
  6. undo delete

  7. To undo the edit, mouseover the center of the silenced portion of audio, and click on the looping Undo arrow.
  8. undo silence

    The silenced portion will be replaced and the fades removed.

  9. To save your changes, either go to the File menu to Save, press command s, or close the recording and click on Save in the dialog presented.
